With Intershop, Ekosport realized a scalable e-commerce store for international expansion in just 12 weeks.


Ekosport, France's leading online retailer of ski equipment, clothing and accessories, is continuously driving forward its international expansion. To cope with the high demand during the ski season between November and February, the company needed a scalable e-commerce solution that would allow it to expand its range of seasonal products quickly and cost-effectively. The choice fell on Intershop: Within just twelve weeks, French integration partner DataSolution implemented the new store in 13 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain and the UK.

Ekosport has been selling equipment for alpine skiing online since 2007. The online business was so successful that the company soon opened a store in Frontenex
(near Albertville) in the French Alps. Ekosport quickly made a name for itself in the outdoor community thanks to its excellent customer service and became one of the leading retailers of ski and outdoor equipment in France.

Today, the offer includes a wide range of outdoor clothing, articles and equipment for a whole range of adventure sports, including downhill skiing, snowboarding, mountain hiking and cross-country skiing.

The challenge
  • Scalable: Ekosport was looking for an e-commerce solution that could be scaled quickly and cost-effectively as the product range grew - especially during the ski season.
  • Flexible: The platform also had to offer the necessary flexibility to open up new markets with specialized touchpoints, such as cross-country skiing or ski touring.
  • International: The simple adaptation of the product catalog as well as the languages and payment methods to the respective region was a key criterion for Ekosport.
The result
  • The Intershop Commerce Platform offers a powerful complete package of product data management (PIM), web content management (WCM), order management (OMS) and personalized customer communication.
  • Content managers can create different websites centrally from the back office using the same components and templates.
  • Currency adjustments are processed via payment modules such as Ogone, Atos, Yandex (Russia) and PayPal, while Intershop's promotion engine ensures that Ekosport can centrally manage and test all promotions and campaigns.
  • Thanks to the seamless integration into Ekosport's back office, ERP, warehouse and supply chain systems, order status and stock levels can be called up in real time.
  • With the interface between Intershop and Neteven - a sales solution for marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay - Ekosport has full control over its products and can optimally serve every channel.
