Faster, lighter, broader: Intershop brings a revised Commerce solution to the market

Jena, 18. September 2018 – The Intershop standard solution for digital sales has been extensively revised and expanded. With these new product highlights, Intershop is setting new standards for Commerce-as-a-Service.

The Intershop Progressive Web Application (PWA)

Intershop PWA represents the symbiosis between a traditional mobile web page and a native app in that, like a website, it can be accessed via URL; but it also offers many features that were previously exclusive to native apps. The Intershop PWA enables certain JavaScripts (“Service Workers”) to be registered in the browser. These synchronize and cache data in the background, enabling content to be easily requested and reloaded from the cache, even when offline or if there is a poor connection or limited bandwidth. The response times are significantly shorter because only data are transferred rather than full pages.

In addition, the technical separation of the front-end and Commerce Management opens up new possibilities. For example, digital agencies can use their core brand management expertise to create unique storefronts for their customers, which pay into the brand experience in the long term. Therefore, Intershop provides a flexible basis for customizable and high-performance commerce concepts in the form of the PWA Blueprint Store that works on Angular. Additional features of the Intershop PWA will be released on an ongoing basis in a 4-week cycle. This release resolves agencies’ problems of growth being limited by the shop solutions that were often previously used. Instead, with Intershop, they have access to a solution that scales effortlessly and also enables applications that require increasingly complex digital strategies.

Integration with Microsoft Dynamics 365

Another highlight of the latest version is the integration of the Intershop Commerce Suite into the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations applications. This will remove the boundary between ERP and Commerce applications and in its place creates a symbiosis that supports growth and unlocks entirely new dimensions of performance. This is enabled by the Intershop standard connectors, which ensure seamless Intershop Commerce Suite integration into the Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP system. The Microservice architecture used in this process creates flexible adaptation to customer projects and guarantees rapid integration. This means that orders and inventory data can be easily and quickly synchronized between the Intershop Commerce Suite and Microsoft Dynamics 365, making duplicate data input and inconsistent inventories a thing of the past.

7.10 uses the Microsoft SQL Server 2017 database

With this release, Microsoft SQL Server 2017 is available as an alternative to the Oracle database. The Microsoft SQL Server was chosen as the cost-effective database behind the Commerce solution as it is easy to use and flexible, whilst also offering a high degree of availability. The database will also satisfy demanding users in terms of its performance and security.
