Merck Chemicals portal now powered by Intershop software worldwide

  • Enfinity Suite 6 from Intershop is new e-commerce platform for the chemicals arm of Merck

Jena, Germany, June 18, 2009 – A project for the chemicals arm of the Merck Group saw the majority of its website being replaced by a new system, including a strategic e-commerce platform. Portals for Merck Chemicals ( now run on Enfinity Suite 6 from Intershop and are being used for online sales to business customers around the world, as well as for content management and editing.

As part of the project, the existing sites for all countries in which Merck Chemicals has a presence were harmonized in favor of a globally identical platform with local elements. Enfinity Suite 6 enables all catalog and product data on chemicals in 20 languages to be made available globally. Different regional marketing and product content can be added by the 60 local subsidiaries independently on a daily basis. In order to provide fully integrated business processes, the platform is linked directly to the relevant ERP system in the various countries.

A technically proven solution was a key factor in the choice of platform, as avoiding downtime is highly important when it comes to business-critical systems. “The Intershop team’s knowledge of e-business really helped make this project a success,” adds Rödel.
