San Francisco, CA - April 19, 2007 - Intershop Communications, a leading provider of e-commerce software for global enterprises, today announced that Sun Microsystems, an industry leader in servers, storage, software, and services with a focus on network computing, has successfully unveiled an updated U.S. store on Intershop's Enfinity Suite 6 to enhance the performance of Sun's consumer website, http://shop.sun.com. The updated site is Sun's premier online store in the Americas for Sun hardware.
Sun selected Intershop's Enfinity Suite 6 in the spring of 2006, and integration and development efforts between the Intershop platform and Sun's other common services and enterprise systems began immediately. "The Intershop team and the Enfinity Suite 6 product extended our current abilities and enabled us to work seamlessly with the Sun.com site and the transitioning of our current store," noted Andreas Hofmann, Director Sun Product Marketing. "We were able to keep all of our existing venues going while phasing in this next generation solution."
The new site allows for customers to leverage a sophisticated product configurator to select the exact, customized hardware unique to their requirements. Customers can then choose to either order the configured product directly or submit a quote for a Sun representative to review and process based on their own, individually contracted pricing agreements.
Sun's Common Web Platform needs to be able to work seamlessly with both their current and next generation sites. The open architecture of the Enfinity Suite 6 system allows for integration to multiple internal systems today, while still remaining flexible enough to respond to Sun's changing backend infrastructure.
The new platform is already being expanded to support Sun's worldwide consumer and partner websites. Sun plans on leveraging the Enfinity system to help handle a significant internationalization challenge - Sun is a fully global enterprise with sites running in dozens of languages and countries.
