Intershop licenses order management platform to Channel21 GmbH

  • Channel21 GmbH chooses TheBakery platform to expand its business
  • Deep integration of order management solution into Intershop platform
  • Deal signals advance in Intershop strategy to refocus on product business

Jena, October 29, 2014 – Order management specialist TheBakery and Channel21 GmbH have closed a licensing deal, reports Intershop Communications AG, leading independent provider of innovative solutions for omni-channel commerce and TheBakery’s parent company. To date, Channel21 GmbH has operated its existing online shop on the TheBakery platform. The new deal now allows Channel21 not only to run the online shop on its own, but to host other shops on it as well. In the future, it will also provide support to existing customers of TheBakery, a service that Intershop is discontinuing.

As part of this transfer, Channel21 GmbH has acquired 11 members of TheBakery GmbH’s staff. Other employees of TheBakery will continue to integrate the solution into the Intershop platform with the aim of enhancing order management functions for the omni-channel platform.

The transaction is another step in Intershop’s drive to focus its portfolio on its high-margin core business in software products, increase its share in the e-commerce software market, and return to profitability over the medium term.

“The decision of Channel21 to ramp up its investment in the already successful order management solution and to use it as a basis for strengthening its business performance is proof positive of the quality and potential of the TheBakery platform,” says Jochen Moll, spokesman for the managing board of Intershop Communications AG. ”“By handing over the operation of this platform to Channel21, we gain resources that allow us to press on with our deeper-level integration of the current TheBakery solution into the Intershop platform. This benefits our customers, who gain expanded order management functions in the process. The deal signals an important step in Intershop’s drive to focus systematically on its product business.”
