Staples.in goes online with Intershop

  • New web shop caters to both B2B and B2C customers

Jena, Germany, 24 June, 2015 – Staples Future Office Products Ltd has launched a new web shop based on Intershop’s e-commerce platform. The new presence www.staples.in is primarily targeted at business customers and went live in April following a short four-month implementation project. Based on Intershop 7.4, it was implemented in cooperation with Intershop’s local partner, Eperium India.

Staples.in aims to be the one stop destination for businesses in India to procure everything from daily essentials like paper, ink, stationery as well as technology, promotional gifting and furniture products. As the largest supplier of office products in India with a footprint covering nine major cities, the platform would allow Staples.in to serve businesses of all sizes, including large multi-location companies to small and midsized businesses.

The new web shop had to cater to the unique needs of businesses of different sizes, apart from also being the storefront for retail consumers. Staples’ B2B customers are typically large Indian businesses spanning multiple locations. They expect seamless self-service ordering and fulfillment processes, as well as savings through consolidated buying and improved consumption information. On the other hand, Staples´ new website also had to meet the needs of its large number of mid and small business customers, by providing the entire gamut of office products at everyday low prices to its clientele of small businesses, professionals, students and consumers in a seamless and easy way.

Based on Intershop’s flexible solution, both channels could be set up in parallel on the same platform, and seamlessly integrated into Staples’ backend and CRM systems. The extensive product catalog is maintained centrally and filtered across the multiple channels for both markets, while the punch-out catalog is also supported by the platform. A complex set of business rules was implemented to reflect the B2B customers’ specific requirements around budget control, approval flow and spend tracking. In addition, recognizing that its B2B customers increasingly expected a similar level of personalization and attention as typical B2C customers, Staples harnessed the extensive capabilities of the Intershop platform to deliver a B2C-like shopping experience to its business customers.

The new solution has cut the time for setting up new enterprise customer accounts from several days to just a few hours. New business customers can easily be added and their specific product catalog launched at the click of a button, while retail customers can seamlessly be converted to business customers as and when required, helping Staples maintain its high customer service standards and boost customer loyalty.

The new web shop implementation also allows for future extension, with the ability to scale easily based on growth in customer demand.

Staples’ new online shop is currently available as a desktop and laptop version. Staples is currently in the midst of developing and launching its dedicated mobile app to further augment the web platform and convenience for the customer.
